The PCRU Outpatient Sr. Research Nurse reports directly to the Medical Director of the PCRU and carries out outpatient clinical procedures in keeping with approved study protocols, clinic policies, and good clinical practice (GCP). This position also assists the Medical/Clinic Director in the day-to-day oversight of the outpatient clinic, the creation and interpretation of clinic policy, budgeting and financial oversight, and personnel management. The primary duties and responsibilities of the job:
1. Implement standards of Good Clinical Practices in the care of research subjects.
2. Provide study-protocol-directed, evidence-based care based on the nursing process, policies, procedures, and protocols of the Johns Hopkins University and Hospital.
3. Insert IV’s, monitor infusions, give medications, conduct patient interviews, draw blood samples, process lab samples, conduct QA/inspection of Clinic equipment, obtain vital signs.
4. Fill out appropriate study paperwork and complete nursing documentation.
5. Work collaboratively with faculty investigators, research nurses, study coordinators and other members of the study team to ensure the highest quality, most ethical clinical research study.
6. Identify and advocate for quality improvement initiatives (clinical, financial, operational) that are aligned with departmental and organizational safety and operational objectives and promote cost-effective use of clinic resources.
7. Assist with study budget and utilization review.
8. Attend unit meetings, attend protocol start up meetings, and be familiar with all study protocols being conducted in the clinic.
9. Advise the Clinical Director on Clinic operations and attend the ICTR-CRU Adult Protocol Review Subcommittee meetings in the absence of the Clinic Director.
10. Assist Clinical Director in mentoring and managing other clinic personnel to promote quality, safety, and excellence in care. Direct the day-to-day practice of the PCRU Phlebotomist and Registrar
11. Enforce all unit, lab, safety and bedside testing policies for the unit consistent with JHH/JHU policies and procedures and adhere to all HIPAA requirements.
12. Work under the direction of the Clinic Director to ensure successful completion of each clinical research study and to perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing.
Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline required.
Minimum of two years’ experience in the specialty or a related area required.
Additional experience may substitute for bachelor's degree and related master's degree may be considered in lieu of some experience, as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Sertifications:

Knowledge of EPIC.
