At Stony Brook Medicine, our Emergency Medical Technicians are valuable members of our team who, under the supervision of an attending physician, provide life support services and transport patients in need of emergency hospital care. Emergency Medical Technicians provide basic life support in an out-of-hospital care setting.
Duties of an Emergency Medical Technician may include the following but are not limited to:
Assists Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic) and other medical care providers in the provision of advanced level medical care.
Coordinates transport; operates the ambulance; maintains transportation equipment and assures the availability of adequate supplies.
Provides administrative support to the Emergency Services Coordinator as needed.
Performs other duties as related to the Emergency Medical Service transportation service as assigned.
Required : New York State Health Department certification as an Emergency Medical Technician and the appropriate New York State driver's license for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Preferred : One or more of the following certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), National Registry.

Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
Successfully complete a 5 panel drug screen*
Successfully complete a Background Check investigation.
Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
