The Department of Economics is looking to hire a full-time pre-doctoral fellow (Senior Research Specialist). The position involves responsibilities that serve as excellent preparation for Ph.D. programs in economics including data processing and analysis, design, implementation, and management of experiments, literature reviews, communicate with funding organizations. The research fellow will work with Professor Sylvain Chassang. The position is based in Princeton, NJ though the RA may live in the metropolitan area and work remotely for part of the week. During the COVID-19 crisis, all work is remote. Please include the names and contact information for three references with your submission materials.
This is a 12 months position, with a possibility to extend it to 18 months. End date is dependent on start date, which may vary.
The Senior Research Specialist will be expected to:
Assemble and manage data sets
Process and analyze data
Assist in the design, implementation, and management of experiments
Write summaries of research
Perform literature searches and reviews
Communicate with funding organizations
Assist in the implementation of surveys and interviews
Example of Projects:
Possible research projects the candidate would contribute to include: a project on improving the external validity of experiments funded by the Sloan Foundation; a project evaluating the impact of secure whistleblowing protocols on the reporting of harassment among garment workers.
BA/BS degree in Math, Physics, Computer Science, Statistics or Economics
Excellent writing skills
Excellent understanding of statistics and probability theory
Excellent programming skills in Python and/or R. Experience with test-driven development a plus. So is familiarity with Unix or Linux
Experience running social science experiments, and especially field experiments a big plus.
