POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Associate Provost for Academic Programs and Educational Effectiveness, the Director of Strategy, Planning, Assessment and Institutional Research (SPAIR) provides leadership and oversight for college-wide institutional effectiveness efforts that include institutional research and data analytics, strategic planning and implementation, CUNY Performance Management Plan (PMP) reporting, and college-wide assessment related to student learning and performance outcomes for academic programs and administrative and educational support (AES) units, as well as other assessment activities related to the College's mission and strategic goals. S/he will promote a college-wide culture of evidence-based decision-making and provide data support and predictive modeling to develop student success outcomes, academic policy, and academic program evaluations in furtherance of institutional mission.

Specifically, the Director will work collaboratively and positively with senior leadership, faculty and staff including the President's Cabinet, Provost's and Deans' Council, Advisory Board, Academic Assessment Council, Faculty and Staff Assessment Liaisons, individual academic programs, and AES to create a culture of continuous improvement of institutional strategy planning, research and data analytics, assessment, including general institutional effectiveness and the measurement of student success and learning. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Under the direction of the Provost and Associate Provost, manage the implementation of the Strategic Plan by working closely with campus units to conduct organizational reviews to identify strengths and weaknesses and to evaluate institutional effectiveness against the plan;
• Promote and develop a culture of continuous improvement using assessment and evidence-based decision making by guiding and directing college-wide assessment and improvement activities regarding student learning, programs and processes; facilitate discussions of data-informed assessment and research finding with critical constituencies to include the College's General Education Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILOs) and Characteristics of a Lehman Graduate, and alignment of ILOs with program learning goals, student learning objectives, and the college strategic plan;
• Develop and direct assessment leading to the improvement in General Education with the implementation of the self-study for periodic review of general education as a program at the College, and the implementation and performance of the College's institutional effectiveness plan and six-step assessment process;
• Promote the campus-wide adoption of analytics through cross-divisional training and workshops and through the creation of tools (e.g., dashboards and reports) that give data greater utility and reach by developing procedures to support analytical, planning, and assessment functions related to strategic, academic, student, and enrollment planning and implementation;
• Develop, implement, and sustain a culture of evidence and high standards of data quality and utility by working collaboratively with academic affairs, student affairs, enrollment management, information technology, administration and finance, institutional advancement, and other campus stakeholders;
• In partnership with key campus constituents, including deans, chairs, and division heads, design and execute a research and analytics agenda based on student success and equity, academic and curricular renewal, postgraduate outcomes, and other timely topics (e.g., supply and demand, space, budget, and finance) that includes quantitative and qualitative analyses that range from descriptive to predictive.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and minimum of eight years' experience in higher education research, planning, policy and practice.

Additional Qualifications: Master's degree or higher preferred. The successful candidate will have 1) strong communication skills with the ability to present data in novel ways graphically and via dashboards; 2) strategic thinker, able to see the big picture and incorporate mega-trends and regional realities in higher education into planning; 3) be highly proficient in quantitative and qualitative data analysis and methods, and have the proven ability to analyze and interpret data and translate data into insights that facilitate data-informed decisions; 4) demonstrate familiarity with data integration into student success platforms, like EAB, Hobsons, etc. and 5) demonstrate competency with relevant software (SPSS, STATA, R, SQL). Candidates should have strong analytical, critical thinking, statistical, research, technology and organizational skills, the ability to set priorities, manage multiple demands, meet deadlines and function with a high degree of autonomy, productivity, and innovation. In addition, candidates should also have a record of developing and leading high performing teams, a collaborative leadership style, experience in a shared-governance environment, a commitment to urban public higher education, success in providing effective, equitable, and inclusive leadership in a multicultural environment and current knowledge of national trends and best practices in the fields of higher education strategy.
