This position directly supports the department objectives to provide excellent clinical care throughprofessional response to patient needs related to scheduling and authorization of outpatient appointments andsurgery.
The PAS Resource Specialist provides assistance to other PAS personnel in the use of PAS networksoftware and department-specific scheduling issues. Also provides suggestions andtakes an active role in the problem-solving processes required to ensure efficiency in all PAS functions. TheSpecialist works with other PAS Resource Specialists in the department to ensure that all clinic functionsare running smoothly and communicates problems to the PAS Supervisor or Department Administrator.
Thisposition reports directly to the Clinical Practice Manager through the PAS Supervisor.
This position qualifies for theoption to telework 3 days aweek after 6 months of employment in the position.
One year of experience in a medical office setting, including high-volume direct patient contact, scheduling of appointments and obtaining managed care authorizations
Thorough knowledge of PAS policies and procedures
Demonstrated advanced PAS user skills as well as extensive knowledge of integrated care at OHSU
Managed care experience and experience working referrals received and referrals to submit reports
6 months experience with a high volume, multiline phone system
Working knowledge and understanding of medical terminology
Proficiency with MS Office Suite (including Outlook, Word, and Excel)
Thorough knowledge of electronic patient scheduling programs
Experience with database entry
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Strong customer service orientation
Demonstrated effectiveness in confrontational customer interactions
Ability to effectively deal with highly emotional needs of surgical patients and individuals
Strong team/collaborative skills
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Surgery department experience
Experience with diagnostic authorizations
Knoweldge of OHSU software including EPIC, Op-time and electronic eligibility systems (i.e. Veripoint)
Experience with diagnostic authoriazations
Experience with surgical scheduling procedures, surgery authorization processes, and hospital admission policies/procedures
