Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) offers one of the most forward-looking educational environments in dental medicine in the country. The Medical and Dental Billing team, along with other members of the Finance and Administration team, supports the financial management and administration of the dental school. This position reports directly to the Billing Administrator and works closely with school clinics it supports: Clinic Business Operations, Dental Faculty Practice, Craniofacial Pain and Sleep Center, Oral Medicine, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Tufts Dental Facilities.
Clinic Business Operations (CBO) supports patient care services billing for the Pre-doctoral, Postgraduate and Specialty clinical treatment areas of the School, as well as any needed billing support for IRB clinical study patients and maintaining CITI certification. The Postgraduate Clinics (residents) are the Specialty Clinics, which includes: Endodontics, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Pedodontics and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dental Faculty Practice (DFP) is a group dental practice that affords full-time faculty the opportunity to practice dentistry and oral surgery at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Participation in DFP encourages faculty members to maintain working relationships with other clinicians and provides a private patient care facility for the Tufts community and residents of the greater Boston area. DFP consists of faculty members practicing, within the facilities provided by the university and those practicing in affiliated hospitals.
The Craniofacial Pain Center specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of complex painful disorders of the head and neck region. The mission of our Center is to provide a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, a concise and coordinated management plan in a holistic, integrated biomedical patient-focused manner.
The Oral Medicine Clinic is dedicated to improving the quality of life in high risk and medically compromised populations by engaging in basic and translational research to promote general health through good oral health practices.
Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology is a dentistry specialty that deals with the nature, identification, and management of diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions. It is a science that investigates that causes, processes, and effects of these diseases. The practice of oral and maxillofacial pathology includes research, diagnosis of diseases using clinical, radiographic, microscopic, biochemical or other examinations and management of patients.
Tufts Dental Facilities for Persons with Special Needs (TDF) is a network of seven outpatient clinics that provides dental care to approximately 7,000 developmentally disabled patients in the state of Massachusetts under the umbrella of TUSDM and in partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS). Additional patient treatment is provided in the operating room setting at four affiliated hospitals within the state. The TDF program also provides a venue for teaching General Practice Residents through the Tufts GPR Program and 4th year dental students from TUSDM.
Under general supervision, the Billing Coordinator is responsible for providing billing metrics to support daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly revenue and collections goals; timely reviewing of codes for accuracy; accurate timely creation and submission of claims to dental/medical insurance companies; timely resubmission and/or appealing denied claims; posting payments and adjustments; answering complex patient billing inquiries and accurate timely reviewing and working aging accounts. Performs other billing related duties, to assist in revenue cycle management.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree/Associate's Degree preferred OR High School degree/GED and 3-5 years of experience in the finance field or in a related area and dental/medical healthcare knowledge.
Needs to be driven, Excel knowledge, innovative, independent, self-starter, a leader, team player, analytical intelligence, exceptional attention to detail, healthcare business or insurance knowledge, ability to effectively communicate technical information, aptitude and willingness to learn and drive change.
Dental coder certification (CDC) required, or within 1 year of hire date.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Certified Dental Coder (CDC) applicant with 4 - 6 years of medical/dental insurance coding/billing.
Knowledge of third-party billing.
Excel expert.
Knowledge of MassHealth and Medicare regulations and guidelines, as well as commercial dental/medical insurance coding/billing practices.
Familiarity with ADA codes, CPT Codes and ICD-10 Codes.
Experience in a fast-paced dental/medical setting.
Knowledge axiUm/Dentrix software.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: Dental Clinics, 40 hour work week, hours are Monday- Friday 8am-5pm
