Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the department of Surgery at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
In collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team, and under the direction of the Surgeon, provides focused and technical nursing care to Clinical Operations general surgery patients. This care encompasses health promotion, health maintenance, or management of health-related problems that is delivered in face-to-face or telephone encounters. Performs treatments and procedures within established guidelines, and provides a safe and therapeutic environment.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides and documents nursing care within the scope of practice for general surgery patients in face-to-face and telephone encounters; provides input to the plan of care by communicating information pertinent to the patient's status to the physician and other members of the healthcare team as appropriate and in a timely manner.
Assists physicians during scheduled office hours, including preparation and setup of clinic exam and procedure rooms for patient visits. Reviews and prepares patient charts prior to office visits for essential paperwork and test results.
Places orders and obtains insurance precertification for prescribed clinical testing for special procedures (CT, MRI, Ultrasound etc.) Provides patients with results of prescribed clinical tests after discussing with the appropriate physicians.
Coordinates pre-operative testing and medical clearance prior to surgical procedures. Calls patients to check in pre- and post-operatively.
Completes return to work/school letters and disability paperwork for patients
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ability to function in a team environment.
Word processing and computer skills.
At least six (6) months of related experience.
At least six (6) months of phone triage experience.
