Available position for Research Assistant II in Dr. Daniel Kohane's Laboratory for Biomaterials and Drug Delivery at Boston Children's Hospital, which focuses on research at the interface of biotechnology and materials science. This position is for a highly-motivated individual and is a two-year appointment, with the possibility of extension based on excellent performance and continued funding. This position will allow participation in the development of biomaterial devices and nanotechnology for drug delivery and innovative medical therapies.
The Research Assistant II will be responsible for:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experimental, specimen preparations and experimental procedures for the purpose of research. Assists in the use of specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of data generated by this equipment
Synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles and polymeric materials, understanding and assessing the chemical/ physical properties of these devices, as well as in vitro (biological assays, cell culture) and in vivo (small animal models) evaluation of devices.
Maintaining equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat professional manner. Inventories supplies and alerts supervisor to needed supplies or mixes standard reagents.
Attending courses in safety procedures for handling, storage and disposal of biohazardous, flammable, corrosive and toxic materials. Carries out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols.
Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.
To qualify, you must have:
A Bachelor's degree in a STEM or related field and 1 year of prior experience. M.S. preferred.
Previous experience in bio/nanomaterial development for in vivo applications.
A willingness to work with animals.
Comfort summarizing and reporting results to researchers.
Awareness of basic safety issues, ability to follow safety procedures, and maintain a safe work environment.
Excellent time-management, communication, and inter-personal skills.
Meticulous attention to detail, practiced laboratory documentation, commitment to producing accurate and high-quality work.
The analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in-depth, experienced-based knowledge.
