UCI Law, founded just ten years ago, is the newest public law school in California in nearly 50 years and is currently ranked 27 nationally by U.S. News & World Report. UCI Law seeks to train lawyers for the practice of law at the highest levels of the profession and has created a community of law students from a broad spectrum of society. Experiential learning is at the core of our mission at UC Irvine School of Law. Students in their first-year Lawyering Skills class will have the opportunity to interview an actual client. Each student works with an actual client or clients, under close supervision, in an environment designed to encourage reflection on the values and responsibilities of the legal profession. A key component to experiential learning at UCI Law includes the Externship Program, which provides academic credit for students doing legal work for judges, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. UCI Law also provides a unique opportunity for real-world educational and professional development through the UCDC Law Program and the UCI Law in NYC Program. Pro Bono Program and the Externship Program More than 90 percent of UCI Law students participate in the Pro Bono Program, ensuring that legal services are provided to those most vulnerable in the local community, as well as communities across the country and around the world. Students develop legal skills while working with low-income clients and providing assistance to underserved causes. The Externship Program provides academic credit for students doing legal work for judges, non-profit organizations, and government agencies.
