The Department of World Languages and Literatures and the Program in Chicano/Latino Studies invite applications for a joint tenure-track position of Assistant Professor and Spanish Heritage Language Coordinator. PhD in Spanish Linguistics or a related field required.
Main area of research: Spanish as a heritage language, with preferred secondary interests in Spanish in the U.S., Spanish-English Bilingualism, Latinxs in Education, and Latinx popular culture. Preferred candidates will also have experience in heritage language program coordination. Candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and research. Duties include teaching six courses on a quarter system (2, 2, 2) and participation in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Migration Studies Research Cluster.
PhD in Spanish or related field.
Native or near-native fluency in Spanish.
Native or near-native fluency in English.
Experience teaching Heritage Spanish at the college level.
Secondary teaching interests in one or more of the following: Spanish in the U.S., Spanish-English Bilingualism, Latinxs in Education, and Latinx popular culture.
Research interest in Migration and Border Studies and/or Bilingualism/Biliteracy among Heritage Speakers of Spanish.
Interest or experience in student retention and success.
Interest or experience with peer-to-peer tutoring programs for Heritage Speakers of Spanish.
Experience coordinating Heritage Spanish language program.
