The University of Michigan is seeking to hire a recruiter to support a new innovative large scale research study being conducted in the Emergency Department and Urgent Care
Recruiter/Health Coaches work in the fast paced Emergency Department and Urgent Care Clinic at Hurley Medical Center as a part of a supportive team. You will directly interface with patients in the waiting areas and inside patient rooms, and over the phone and other social media platforms. During your interactions, you’ll inform participants of the various research activities they will have the opportunity to complete, gain informed consent, and collect survey assessments. You’ll contribute to a number of activities across clinical trial studies, which over time may include: Providing Motivational Interviewing and CBT-based therapy for substance use and violence in a brief intervention format via remote video or online (with fidelity). As a critical component to the success of the study, the primary responsibility of this role will focus heavily on building rapport, patient engagement, community outreach, and encouraging participants to complete research activities. Shifts will be 8-10 hours per day, typically sometime between the hours of 10am and 12am on both weekdays and weekends. You will also assist with scheduling and assessment responsibilities and data tasks.
Some college credits or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Public Health, Social Work, or related health field is required. This position requires flexibility and availability to work evenings and weekends, as well as some day shifts. Reliable transportation will be necessary in order to complete participant interviews at various community locations. We are looking for someone who is personable, has excellent organizational skills; is detail-oriented, personable, is able to work independently but also be a team player; and can communicate effectively. Must be comfortable with meeting and getting to know youth and their family.
Previous research experience, hospital setting experience or volunteer experience, experiencing using Motivational Interviewing or other clinical work, and knowledge of the research process is preferred.
Most shifts will be afternoons/evenings, including weekends (typically shifts will range between the hours of 10am to Midnight, as well as some day shifts on an as needed basis.
