Harborview Medical Center has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time, day shift SOCIAL WORK SUPERVISOR, INPATIENT PSYCHIATRY. The Supervisor will coordinate services between the clinical treatment team and the involuntary treatment court evaluators. The Supervisor also provides psychosocial assessment and treatment planning for patients and establishes solid working relationships with representatives from the public community mental health systems to facilitate patient entry into these systems. The supervisor will work with patients and support systems on discharge planning including housing, outpatient psychiatric treatment, chemical dependency treatment programs, finances, patients/support system education, and crisis intervention.
RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical Responsibilities
Provide psychosocial assessment and treatment planning for patients from ages 18+ hospitalized on an inpatient psychiatric unit.
Work with patients and support systems on discharge planning including housing, outpatient psychiatric treatment, chemical dependency treatment programs, finances, patients/support system education, and crisis intervention.
Act as primary coordinator between clinical treatment team and Involuntary Treatment court evaluators; and responsible for filing long-term order petitions. Establish solid working relationships with representatives from the public community mental health systems to facilitate patient entry into these systems.
Conduct family/network conferences as indicated.
Observe Social Work Department policies/procedures, and legal mandates in carrying out social work role.
Complete competency reviews for clinical skills and information systems as identified by the inpatient psychiatry program unit.
Complete all supporting social work documentation and appropriate forms adhering to confidentiality and Harborview Standards.
Provide clinical services with respect for patient/family rights and within the Social Work Code of Ethics.
As the primary liaison between Utilization Management, the Psychiatric Treatment Team, Behavioral Health Organizations and other payers , the SW assumes responsibility for monitoring and negotiating length of stay financial approval for all patients on the treatment team.
Assist Associate Director to provide training and clinical supervision for the social workers assigned to inpatient psychiatry.
Maintain Orientation and Training Manual for new and hourly Social Workers.
Assume responsibility for scheduling and coordinating weekend, vacation, and sick leave coverage for inpatient psychiatry social work unit.
Assist Associate Director to maintain a performance review system in accordance with Departmental and Medical Center policy.
Assist Associate Director in making timely and appropriate counseling and/or disciplinary interventions.
Provide thorough, accurate, and timely information on supervisory and management issues/problems to Associate SW Manager.
Maintain a program climate, which fosters jobs satisfaction and professional growth of supervisees.
Administrative/Program Development Responsibilities
Participate in Department of Psychiatry Committees as requested· ·
Participate in Unit Specific Program Planning
Participate in recruitment and selection of social work permanent and hourly staff for positions, which open within assigned units.
Implement CQI activities for assigned supervisory units.
Maintain required unit statistics
Complete required payroll documentation/leave requests in timely manner. Staff Development
Assist Associate Director in formulating yearly performance/staff development goals and implement plan within available personal/professional resources.
REQUIREMENTS A Master of Social Work Degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education AND four years of full-time professional social work experience OR equivalent education/experience. Two years of this experience must have been in a health care setting.
LEGAL REQUIREMENT Licensure as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the State of Washington.
DESIRED Current experience as an Inpatient Psychiatry Social Worker.
