The Department of Radiology in the School of Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle is seeking applications for one full-time faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor without tenure, commensurate with experience, to join eleven existing faculty members in the Interventional Radiology (IR) section with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021. The position would be a joint position between the Body Procedures service and the section of Interventional Radiology. School of Medicine faculty members have an annual service period of 12 months (July 1-June 30). In addition to clinical activities, responsibilities will include instruction of medical students, diagnostic radiology residents, and IR residents. Productivity in research and other academic pursuits is mandatory for promotion.
The Body Procedures Service has dedicated facilities and staff – its own multi-slice CT, two dedicated ultrasound rooms, dedicated physician assistants, nursing, scheduling, and support staff. Cases are divided into simple cases handled by the physician assistant and complex cases managed by IR and Radiology Faculty, including fellows and residents. The position would involve oversight of the Body Procedure services at UWMC and HMC hospitals, with coverage of the service by IR and DR faculty.
The University of Washington Interventional Radiology section covers five sites (the University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Veteran's Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and Northwest Hospital) and has an affiliate agreement for IR training with Seattle Children's Hospital. Our service provides a broad range of vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures, with particular strengths in endovascular treatment of peripheral arterial disease, interventional oncology, hepatobiliary interventions, solid organ transplant interventions, trauma, and dialysis access management. The clinical practice is outstanding and includes inpatient admitting services and a full day of outpatient clinic weekly, for each IR attending physician. We have strong representations in the IR training programs with both integrated and independent IR Residency trainees. Our section operates an active animal laboratory at the South Lake Union campus with considerable NIH grant support. Teaching is an essential element of the position. Teaching duties include instruction on the clinical service in IR procedure techniques along with pre- and post-procedure care to interventional and diagnostic radiology residents as well as medical students. In addition, all faculty members give didactic lectures throughout the year to radiology residents and providers in related disciplines. All UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

Candidates should meet the following requirements:
M.D., or foreign equivalent, in the field and eligibility for full medical licensure in Washington State
Successful completion of one of the following: the VIR fellowship, the Integrated IR Residency or the Independent IR Residency (in addition to the DR residency) in an accredited program
Excellence in academic achievement as demonstrated by a record of scientific presentation and/or publications
Experience with educational program(s) and/or training program(s)
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
