Essential Functions: This position conducts research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes as well as collaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide care, health promotion and education. The position will be responsible for the implementation of the Cystic Fibrosis research project and manage the Cystic Fibrosis Registry database, following-up with patients, and making sure the registry is compatible with the research protocol. The position will report to a Principal Investigator. Essential functions are the primary duties/major job responsibilities that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. The essential functions are listed in order of importance.Collect information from patients who have consented to share data for research purposes. Obtain informed consents and perform enrollment processes. Enter data into the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation patient registry pertaining to patient diagnosis, treatments, care received, demographics, measurements, screening tests, and other conditions and events. Management and maintenance of the data for accuracy, completeness and validity. Attend clinic visit with physician. Obtain vital signs and complete clinic intake form. Collect sputum samples and send to lab. Perform phlebotomy and send samples to lab. Determine what type of testing will be needed at the next clinic visit.Create and update patient medication list and also provide list to patient. Obtain prior authorization for medications from physician. Send prescriptions to patients.Visit inpatients. Correct orders in consultation with the hospital services and Cystic Fibrosis physician, to match existing Cystic Fibrosis medication protocols and plans. Ensure good communication between hospital team, consultation services, and Cystic Fibrosis physicians. Assist with discharge plans. Provide patient physical status updates to Cystic Fibrosis physicians. Collect and enter data from the hospitalization into the Registry.Schedule patient appointments including pre-registration of patient personal and medical information prior to the clinic appointment. Obtain information from patients regarding current symptoms, medical histories, and medications to provide doctors with a complete understanding of a patient's background and current medical needs. Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries.Interact with other team members ? dietician, pharmacist, respiratory therapist, etc., to provide the patient with comprehensive treatment for the full range of medical and health related needs. Attend team meetings.Attend National Cystic Fibrosis North America Conference every other year. Participate in other appropriate training.Other Duties As Assigned.
Qualifications: Education:Post high school training (apprentice, certificate)Experience:Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure with the State of Michigan is requiredKnowledge, skills and abilities:Able to problem solve.
