The Taubman Medical Specialties Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) is the clinical home for the Gastroenterology Bariatrics Program. This unique service is dedicated to pre and post bariatric procedure patients, while partnering with the programs physician(s), nurses and other providers to deliver excellent care and customer service. We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and self-driven Physician Assistant. This individual will share our priorities which include: high quality medical care, excellent customer service, safety of staff and patients, efficiency, stewardship of resources and the ideal experience for our patients, families and employees.
As part of the GI Bariatrics team, the PA will:
Provide a consultative visit with patients to obtain a detailed history and physical and provide pre-procedural risk assessment developed in conjunction with medical and anesthesia faculty expertise.
Visits are provided both in person and virtually.
Provide specialized education regarding disease-based and procedural education/instructions for patients and their family.
Review possible risks of proposed procedure while obtaining consents (including blood and photography consent and optional tissue research).
Provide prescriptions and instructions for medications/medical supplies necessary for the pre-procedural period.
Incorporate nutrition, GI psychology, and research resources to benefit patient satisfaction and education.
Advise patients concerning diet, hygiene, normal growth and development and methods for prevention of disease.
Compile and record detailed narrative case evaluations and provide statistical summaries of services rendered.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion or the credentialing and privileging process.
Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
Current DEA registration required
BLS certification required
2-3 years of experience as a Physician Assistant.
Supervision is received from the ACU Medical Director and Administrative Managers
This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine, which represents bargaining unit members in all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
