The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the University of Michigan, a dual school department, is dedicated to conducting high-impact research and instructing and guiding trainees in the areas of engineering, biology and medicine.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our pre-award research administration team. Ideally, this person will also have post-award experience and will be able to assist on the post-award side if needed. You will support the continued expansion of the department’s highly productive research program by providing senior research administration services to faculty and trainees in the department. This position is deadline driven and may require overtime periodically.

Facilitate all aspects of Pre-Award Research Administration including:
Prepare and submit project grant applications to various federal/non-federal sponsors
Prepare budgets and sponsor forms
Facilitate PAF preparation and communicate with ORSP, the College of Engineering and Medical School’s Office of Research regarding sponsor guidelines or changes required for submission to sponsor
Monitor PAF progress, published timetables, sponsor deadlines
Prepare Just-in-time information as requested
Assist faculty and trainees with progress reports and updating Other Support and Biosketches
Communicate any pre-award changes to faculty and staff when necessary
Ideally, this person will also have some post-award experience and may have a small portion of their effort devoted to post-award activities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
You should enjoy working with a diverse team and diverse range of customers. You will need to have experience successfully supporting faculty with research portfolios including processing pre and post award grants administration. You will also need to be detail oriented, have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Adobe Acrobat, be a passionate learner who loves digging in and finding solutions, and have strong skills in both team-based collaboration and individual work.
Senior Level: Minimum 5 years of experience in research administration
Intermediate Level: Minimum 3 years of experience in research administration
A working knowledge of eResearch, M-Pathways, and other internal UM platforms and familiarity with multiple sponsor funding guidelines and UM policies and procedures are a plus.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
