The primary function of the position is responsibility for dental assisting for the Harvard Dental Center (HDC)—comprised of two types of dental practices (one academic, one similar to private practice) all under one roof. The Dental Assistants act as ongoing partners and stewards of: the patient experience, axiUm, Infection Control, and materials/operatories. The Dental Assistants support all aspect of dentistry and each will be assigned to support several of the following areas on more regular basis: oral diagnosis, radiology, restorative dentistry, general dentistry, implant dentistry, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics, and IV sedation. Responsible for ensuring a total quality experience (for both patient and provider) from the dental perspective. Responsible for fostering an environment of quality control—responding to issues as they arise and escalating to manager as needed. Capable of creating a cooperative and positive environment for patients, providers, students of all levels, and staff. Must possess excellent work habits, show strong self-initiative and a willingness to be flexible.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Chairside assisting performing four-handed dentistry. Must demonstrate exceptional chairside expanded dental assisting duties to include all aspects of general and specialty dentistry.
Greet and escort patient(s) to and from operatories/bays in a consistently friendly and professional manner.
Set-up and breakdown of operatories/bays for patient care.
Stocking dental operatories/bays with supplies and assuring appropriate standardization of assigned operatories/bays.
Assisting in equipment control and maintaining dental cassettes and hand pieces.
Takes and mounts digital and diagnostic quality x-rays, as ordered by provider. (E.g: FMX, Ceph, Pan)
Completes all activities associated with dental models including impressions, pouring, prepping and packaging models for storage or distribution to dental laboratories.
Records medical histories and hard tissue charting, within HDC latest Dental Software Platform. At the direction of the assigned Provider, updates the patient electronic health record at each visit.
Assist with other related duties and/or special projects as required or assigned. The School and or the HDC reserves the right to add or change duties as dictated by business needs.

Current Massachusetts Dental Assistant Licensure (BORID).
Must hold active dental certifications—Certified Dental Assistant (DANB) or Certification (Certified Ortho Assistant) each with Current Radiology and Infection Control Certification.
Current CPR/BLS Certification.
Minimum of three (3) years related work experience.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook
Experience using electronic health records databases and/or axiUm.
Must be respectful, resourceful, and serve as a positive example to others.
Ability to prioritize and multitask.
Finesse in interacting with immediate colleague: utilizing tact, respect, and effective communication.
Excellent communication with all members of the HSDM community (all levels of staff, students, faculty, patients, visitors).
