The Assistant Compliance Administrator will serve as a member of a team of professionals employed to ensure that Mississippi State University maintains compliance with various federal regulations regarding human research activities. Specifically, the Compliance Administrator will assist with coordination of the university-wide comprehensive Human Research Protections Program (HRPP) in a manner consistent with the Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) regulations (45 CFR 46) as well as the Policy and Procedure Statement on Human Subjects at Mississippi State University (http://www.msstate.edu/dept/audit/7903.html).
This position reports directly to the HRPP Officer.
The Assistant Compliance Administrator is responsible for administrative support duties for the IRB. Duties include but are not limited to: * receive, triage, and process incoming protocol submissions, modifications, continuing reviews, and other forms for review with considerable exercise of independent judgment including advising faculty, staff and students on preparation of documents; * assist investigators with general questions; * IRB meeting preparation and drafting of minutes; * manage databases, and filing systems to ensure accurate and up-to-date information and compliance with applicable regulations and policies; * assist with development, management and presentation of research compliance-related education programs; * assist in development, documentation and implementation of compliance policies and procedures, and quality improvement programs; * ensure HRPP records are maintained appropriately; * coordinate inspections by regulatory, accreditation or funding agencies; * assist in preparation and distribution of required reports; * other duties related to the goals of the office may be assigned as necessary.
Bachelor's degree or 4 or more years of related experience in a regulatory compliance, research administration, or legal environment.
Work experience in a directly relevant field.
Knowledge of DHHS regulations (45 CFR 46), FDA, and HIPAA requirements. Certified IRB Professional (CIP).

The successful candidate will have: * a basic understanding of research compliance as it relates to an academic institution; * the ability to competently function independently or in a team environment; * excellent analytical, organizational, reasoning, and problem solving skills; * excellent verbal and written communication skills; * ability to maintain accurate and detailed records; * experience with data management and word processing systems; * strong interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts; * the ability to maintain a high degree of integrity and confidentiality; and * the ability to establish priorities and react promptly to a large variety of requests and needs, sometimes in stressful situations.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
* No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility. * Frequent externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis. * Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands. * Usual office setting; ability to travel to various campus locations; some overnight travel is expected for professional development activities.
