The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) is located12 miles westof the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases.
This Research Assistant will work as part of a team to support modern web-development for two closely related projects. The Macaque Genotype and Phenotype Project (mgap.ohsu.edu) is an NIH-funded project to analyze and share large-scale genomic data. The position will also support a related internal website (prime-seq.ohsu.edu) dedicated to data analysis and processing; will assist with projects related to the maintenance of existing features and development of new features for each website. The majority of new features will be end-user facing, and require familiarity with client-side UI, including modern JS frameworks. Examples of upcoming projects include the creation of interactive web pages to view genomic data and integration with the ReactJS-based JBrowse2 genome browser. This position does not involve direct work with non-human primates. Familiarity with professional development practices, such as version control, development/release cycles, build systems, and automated testing is required. Coding will occur in multiple languages.
While this position is primarily software related, knowledge of biology is highly preferred. A basic understanding of DNA sequence analysis and genomic data sets will be essential to effectively develop new features. Depending on the applicants background, a portion of time may include data analysis.
