The Instructor/Assistant Professor of Dance is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the credit dance program. That includes, but is not limited to: teaching in the studio and in the classroom, maintaining the Dance A.A. transfer program, choreographing for students, advising and mentoring students, coordinating with visiting guest artists/choreographers, producing dance concerts, and collaborating with other performing arts departments which may include choreographing for musical theater and for opera, working with the Office of Strategic Communication, as well as with other campus-wide departments. Additionally, the successful candidate will evaluate adjunct faculty, support the assistant dean in managing the schedule of dance classes, assist with dance scholarship selection, order textbooks for classes, recruit dancers, and promote the dance program within the county. The successful applicant will be responsible for directing the AACC Dance Company, conducting auditions, scheduling rehearsals, producing two major performances/academic year, which includes hiring technicians, photographers, lighting designers, stage and house managers.
The successful candidate must be able to teach and assess student learning, develop new courses and programs to enhance the dance curriculum, and uphold AACC’s values and community partnerships. The successful candidate will be committed to equity, diversity and inclusion.
The position includes a minimum of six office hours weekly. Professional development is expected on the regional and national level. Release time from teaching will be provided each fall and spring for the successful candidate to serve as the coordinator of the program and dance company.
Master of Fine Arts in Dance, or Master of Education with a concentration in Dance or Dance related area of study.
Two years of full-time college level teaching experience in dance, including choreographing.
Demonstrated ability to teach modern, jazz, beginning ballet, and dance history.
Evidence of professional performing experience.
Demonstrated ability to direct and choreograph for a dance company.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most AACC employees are currently working remotely. Only individuals who are residents of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia are eligible for employment at the college.
