Department/College Description Information and Technology Services (ITS) is committed to serving the university's information technology needs. We provide development, maintenance, and support for centralized administrative applications, technology infrastructure, and client computing, as well as support and advice for a wide variety of other information technology needs. The ITS Application Development team is responsible for the implementation and support of third party and custom applications that are used by prospective students, current students, parents, faculty, staff, and other members of the RIT community.
Detailed Job Description RIT is looking for an accomplished individual with database administration (DBA), data engineering, and ETL experience to join its Enterprise Data Management team.
Take an empowered leadership role in the implementation of solutions that meets our customer's business needs.
Meet with customers to understand business requirements.
Perform requirements analysis and collaborate with peers to determine the best solution or approach.
Architect, implement, and maintain RIT databases managed by Information and Technology Services. Current supported technologies include Oracle, SQL*Server, and MariaDB.
Install and configure security and backup/recovery procedures for on-premise databases.
Build data pipelines and transform datasets to meet the data needs of the RIT community.
Develop and follow department standards on the software development lifecycle, source code control, knowledge management, and change management.
2 years of experience in designing, developing and deploying successful database and data management solutions.
2 years of progressive and hands-on experience in the modeling and deployment of contemporary versions of Oracle's Database Management Systems, Microsoft's SQL*Server, or Maria DB.
2 years of experience in data modeling, database design, and database performance tuning.
2 years of experience in the development, operation and integration of databases.
2 years of experience in structured systems analysis, design, development, and implementation including the utilization of formal SDLC methodologies.
1 year of experience with participating in external vendor relationships.
Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and consulting skills with the ability to collaborate directly with business partners, technical staff and end users are required.
Ability to analyze complex business and technical challenges and evaluate the impact of potential solutions from both perspectives is required.
A strong customer focus and an ability to work directly with end users to translate business requirements into effective solutions are required.
The self-initiative to be given general guidance on an objective and to achieve that objective with minimal managerial guidance is required.
Excellent interpersonal and skills are required.
Ability to quickly learn new technical, functional and business concepts relating to applications implemented at RIT without formal training is required.
Experience integrating systems across technological and functional boundaries is required.
Experience with the use of ETL tools such as Informatica PowerCenter.
Experience with Linux scripting.
Experience with cloud computing environments, such as AWS.
Experience with Tableau, or other business intelligence software.
Experience with job scheduling packages, such as UC4.
Experience with formal software methodologies such as Waterfall, Agile, and DevOps.
