Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Provide direct patient care to acutely and chronically ill patients in the Rheumatology Clinic, provide clinic duties, including but not limited to: case management, phone triage, refill medications per protocol, schedule testing and consults, assist with office procedures, patient education and maintain open communication with patients and physicians. Graduation from state-accredited school of registered nursing and two years of nursing experience, with at least one year in the assigned specialty area. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Organizational Unit Overview:
The Rheumatology service has a long history of care to adult patients. Our clinic specializes in treating arthritis conditions of the joints, muscles, skeletal spine, connective tissue and immune glands. Arthritis can arise from joint wear or degenerative conditions (osteoarthritis), causing pain and stiffness. Rheumatoid arthritis is a condition which occurs when joints are attacked by the body’s own defenses, resulting in swelling, pain and fever. Major conditions treated by our specialists include:
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (Lupus)
Ankylosing Spondylitis (Arthritis of the spine)
Infections related to arthritis
Polymyositis/Dermatomyositis (Muscle Disease)
Fibromyalgia Treatment of these conditions may require monitoring of special medications referred to as disease modifying drugs (DMARDs), biologics and biosimilars, Injection of joints, soft tissue, bursa, tendons, muscles, and low back problems with special drugs to help manage these conditions in a timely fashion. Special laboratory tests from blood and other body specimens such as needle aspiration of joint fluid, synovial and muscle biopsies, and other soft tissues may be needed for a more accurate and timely diagnosis.
