The Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) team provides tertiary care to critially ill patients with cardiovascular disease. All cardiothoracic cardiology, vascular surgery and surgical subspecialty patients are cared for in a multidisciplinary and inter-professional care model in a state-of-the-art 26-bed ICU. Our Anesthesiology Critica Care group currently includes 20 physicians and 21 advanced practice providers. We also admit most of our subspeciality surgical critical care patients to this ICU. This creates a practice environment with an excellent mix of surgical and non-surgical ICU patients. OHSU is a 550-bed Magnet hospital with level-1 trauma designation, is the only academic hospital in Oregon, and has made an institutional commitment to being anti-racist.
The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine (APOM) at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) is looking for a generalist-intensivist to join the teams in the Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU), Virtual ICU (VICU) and Adult Anesthesiology.
We are looking for an energetic physician who has completed a fellowship training in anesthesiolgoy critical care and wants to join our dynamic ICU team.
The appointee will work in the operating room and procedural locations providing anesthesia services. These locations include ambulatory facilities and non-OR anesthesia sites. They will be expected to participate in medical direction of nurse anesthetists, resident supervision, and provide independent practice in the operating rooms. They will not be expected to provide routine care for children under the age of 13, or obstetric anesthesia care.
Will teach trainees and support staff in their area of professional expertise. Teaching is done through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year and through teaching in the course of performing their own job by modeling best practices, mentoring trainees, guiding learning through delegating graduated and focused levels of responsibility. Assistant Professors have a demonstrated competence in teaching and are knowledgeable about relevant guidelines from all applicable regulating bodies. (E.g. ACGME competencies for clinical faculty).
Will provide an outstanding level of professional performance (e.g. quality of clinical care for clinical faculty). Professional performance is to be delivered in a manner that is compliant with the regulations and guidelines of all relevant regulating bodies (e.g. the American Society of Anesthesiologists, JCAHO, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, OHSU IRB, NIH and all other state, federal, and institutional regulatory guidelines). Treats all patients, research subjects, trainees and co-workers with dignity and respect.
May maintain a program of scholarly research activity directed toward improving understanding of the causes, detection, and treatment of diseases.
Overall, the appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the University's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. Appointee shall have a demonstrated competence in patient care and teaching/mentorship.
