The Lab Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of a large Dermatopathology Laboratory, overseeing three work shifts. Duties include overseeing a large technical staff, preparing the lab for Board of Health and CAP inspections and management of Standard Operating Procedures, relating to new regulations and requirements. Daily technical work includes embedding, staining, grossing and cutting. Perform task of laboratory safety officer, which includes maintenance of safety lab equipment.

Manage lab which processes over 200,000 blocks per year
Oversee staff of 28 technicians and 7 lab aides working around three shifts in conjunction with the Divisional Administrator
Prepare lab for Board of Health inspections
Prepare lab for C.A.P, inspections. Maintain and update SOPM regarding new regulations and requirements
Prepare and maintain all lab manuals. Prepare all plan monitors for C.A.P. Schedule, approve and deny all employee vacations in conjunction with the Divisional Administrator Daily embed 300-400 skin biopsies
Daily staining (H&E and PAS) of all nail biopsies
Daily perform all special stains. Daily stain all deeper slides
Daily update all Quality control records. Maintaining of V.I.P. and embedding machines in order to maintain proper quality of tissues
Perform tasks of Laboratory Safety Officer which includes maintenance of safety lab features like eye wash and hood vents, and ensuring the full observation of personal protective equipment of staff
Negotiate lab supply contracts
Oversee purchases of lab equipment, in conjunction with Divisional Administrator
Keep inventory of lab equipment, chemicals and supplies
Prepare daily workflow for all three personnel shifts
Render continuing education for all technicians to meet requirements for NYSED licensure
Address attendance and personnel issues with staff, in conjunction with Divisional Administrator
Conduct interview for recruitment and disciplinary oversight for current technical staff
B. S. Degree or equivalent, with at least 4 of experience. Licensed by the NYSED. Demonstrated strong communication skills and proven knowledge of College of American Pathologists requirements and guidelines; along with Board of Health lab regulations
