General Purpose & Objective The Minnesota Technical Assistance Program (MnTAP) is an outreach and assistance program at the University of Minnesota that helps Minnesota businesses develop and implement industry tailored solutions that prevent pollution at the source, maximize efficient use of resources, and reduce energy use and cost. MnTAP recently developed a series of training modules with the goal of training wastewater operators and supporting implementation of energy efficiency opportunities. Delivery of this wastewater energy efficiency training program will be support through a three year grant to implement a statewide cohort based training program for wastewater energy efficiency. This position will lead multiple training sessions with each cohort, covering topics of energy benchmarking, secondary aeration energy efficiency, digester energy efficiency, and continuous improvement. This position will also lead the site engagement and be responsible for organizational aspects of these training events. This position reports to the project manager and will require travel throughout the state of Minnesota.
Review the training topics and refresh or learn the key concepts related to energy efficiency for wastewater treatment facilities.
Lead outreach to engage sites in each cohort
Coordinate planning and organization of training sessions.
Lead energy efficiency training events with wastewater treatment operators.
Support implementation of energy efficiency opportunities within each cohort.
Essential Functions Deliver Energy Efficiency Training to Wastewater Treatment Operators (70%)
Review and learn the material in the existing training modules.
Organize training presentations for each of the four training modules.
Present each training module to each wastewater cohort.
Lead update meetings between training sessions where operators will share energy efficiency implementation progress.
Record proposed and implemented energy savings outcomes.
Provide links to participating sites with relevant resources from the State and energy providers.
Follow up with facilities to support implementation for 2 years beyond the training.
Planning and Engagement for Training (25%)
Lead outreach to engage wastewater operators for each cohort training.
Present information about program at industry specific meetings to engage operations staff.
Schedule training locations, dates and times and communicate with relevant parties
MnTAP Team Participation (5%)
Participate in MnTAP team meeting and training activities.
Provide technical reports on program progress for promotion and reporting.
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science and minimum 4 years related experience or a combination of related education and work experience of at least 8 years
Familiar with energy efficiency calculations
Familiar with typical engineering calculations (mass balance, energy consumption, process economic analysis)
Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication, especially related to training and teaching
Comfortable with client outreach activities including calls, meetings, and hosting training events
Strong analytical and problem solving abilities
Ability and skill in managing multiple priorities
Ability and willingness to travel independently throughout the State of Minnesota on a regular basis
Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline
Passion to improve Minnesota’s environmental performance through energy efficiency
Experience or education in wastewater treatment
Demonstrated project management skills
