About the Center
The Center for Applied Proteomics and Molecular Medicine in the College of Science has a mission to: a) create new technologies and make basic science discoveries in the field of disease pathogenesis, b) apply these discoveries and technologies to create and implement strategies for disease prevention, early diagnosis, and individualized therapy. The primary emphasis of our disease research is cancer and infectious diseases. Our CAP/CLIA accredited laboratory bridges translational research and clinical diagnostic testing. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the CAP/CLIA laboratory is providing COVID testing services, in addition to on-going research.
The Laboratory Assistant serves as a general laboratory assistant in the COVID-19 testing lab. In this capacity, the incumbent serves as the primary person to receive and log-in specimens, reagents, and supplies; communicate with couriers; performs daily equipment quality control for refrigerators, incubators/ovens, and freezers; maintains adequate reagent and supply inventory, performs general lab functions such as autoclaving waste, recycling material, retrieving packages/deliveries, washing glassware/plasticware; copying/printing; communicates all issues with the laboratory team and supervisors, ensures compliance with applicable CAP/CLIA accreditation regulations and all federal, state, and local laws, and abides by university and laboratory SOPs and policies.
The duration of the appointment is 1 year and subject to renewal, dependent on satisfactory performance and continuation of funding.
Ability to work in a regulated laboratory environment wearing personnel protective equipment for an 8 hour work day/shift;
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English;
Ability to read and record numbers;
Ability to use personal computers and Microsoft Word and Excel;
Ability to follow complex oral instructions;
High school diploma.
Course work in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, Biochemistry, or Life Sciences.
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
