JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this position conducts animal breeding, behavioral testing, and surgery on small animals within the UTHSC Department of Medicine and VA medical center in Memphis. Additionally, this position harvests tissues, ensures there are enough animals for lab experiments; formulates weekly reports pertaining to animal usage; aids the PI with experiments; and organizes and maintains the IACUC protocol.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts animal breeding, behavioral testing, and surgery on small animals.
Ensures there are enough animals for lab experiments.
Formulates weekly reports pertaining to animal usage.
Aids the PI with experiments.
Prepares and maintains the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocol.
Conducts PCR, western blots, Elisa Assay, ext.
Prepares animal tissues, histochemistry, and genotyping of different mice phenotypes.
Assists the PI with the daily operational needs of the laboratory.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
