UW Medicine’s IT Services department has an outstanding opportunity for a Business Intelligence Project Analyst!
UW Medicine’s Information Technology Services (ITS) department is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Neighborhood Clinics (UWNC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM) and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). In addition, UW Medicine shares in the ownership and governance of Children’s University Medical Group and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (a partnership between UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research and Seattle Children’s). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all of these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.
In collaboration with UW Medicine IT Services (‘ITS’) and under the general guidance of the Assistant Director, Analytics Consulting, the primary focuses of the Business Intelligence Project Analyst (‘Analyst’), are:
Collaborating with UW Medicine partners and BI Report Developers facilitating business requirements analysis via the methodical investigation, analysis, review, and documentation of all or part of a business in terms of business functions and data needs.
Supporting the ACTeam in the triaging of customer requests, via both support tickets and more formal project requests.
Supplementing ongoing operational tasks, as well as episodic project work, within the Data Ops team and the Analytics department as a whole, performing tasks such as creating/running/documenting meetings, tracking and facilitating task completion, and supporting the creation of various technical and business documents.
Leading interactions with customers to gather requirements, communicate status, resolve issues, and obtain sign-offs (i.e., design complete, testing complete, and/or ready for promotion).
Identifying areas in need of and providing recommendations for process improvement.
Partnering with development, application and other Analyst teams to design and implement analytics solutions.
Providing an overall excellent customer experience.
While all members of the Analytics Consulting Team (‘ACTeam’) are expected to develop a proficiency across the domains we support, Analyst areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
Operational support of existing processes, systems, and data workflows;
project management and intake coordination;
identifying and implementing internal process improvement within Analytics and supporting our partners;
complex business requirements gathering and management; and
performing data analysis and present findings.
As a member of the ACTeam, the Analyst will participate in the triage of incoming customer requests with other team members. The Analyst will engage with other team members to drive process improvement both within the ACTeam and the department as a whole. The Analyst will stay up-to-date on all department solutions and services and frequently demonstrate and educate customers on existing and new tools, while serving as an operational support bridge across all Analytics teams and engagements.
The Analyst has a unique focus on supporting operational and project work across Analytics. The Analyst will directly support the triage of incoming customer requests with other team members, identifying those support tickets and/or project requests that require coordinator involvement, with a targeted focus on the Data Ops. Team, but also spanning the entirety of the Analytics group. The Analyst will engage with other team members to drive operational excellence both within the ACTeam and the department as a whole. The incumbent will stay up-to-date on all group solutions and services and frequently demonstrate and educate customers on existing and new tools.
The position requires creativity and the ability to create innovative solutions to business problems, along with flexible participation across operational and project-based work, spannign multiple teams, varied systems, and diverse stakeholders. Responsibilities are to be carried out with a high level of business and moderate technical expertise; collaborating with other teams, stakeholders, and technical and business operations teams as required to successfully deliver within areas of responsibility.
This role will work across cross-functional teams. This position will also require the ability to navigate complex levels of the UW Medicine environment in addition to working with Managers and Directors of UW Medicine entities. The incumbent is expected to perform analytical work requiring knowledge of administrative principles and analytical practices.
Overall, data analytics is a strategic function within UW Medicine with a large set of growing demands. The ability to deliver improved analytics, faster, and at a lower cost is essential to both tactical and strategic success of UW Medicine overall. This role provides crucial support to UW Medicine and its partners for all of the major initiatives that require operational reporting, visualization or dashboards to deliver information to all levels of the organization and affect change. The analytics solutions developed by this role are used to support clinical, operational, and financial reporting and analysis and are key to the success of the organization as a whole. Adhering to best practices and standards helps support enterprise-wide goals and ensures data standardization across the enterprise.
Project Coordinator (60%)
Performs coordinator duties across ongoing operations and projects, creating/running/documenting meetings, tracking and facilitating task completion, and supporting the creation and maintenance of various technical and business documents.
Collaborates with UW Medicine partners and BI Report Developers facilitating business requirements analysis via the methodical investigation, analysis, review and documentation of all or part of a business in terms of business functions and data needs.
Manages the requirements development process through the elicitation, analysis, specification and verification of multiple levels of requirements (i.e., business, stakeholder, and/or solution).
Supports the ongoing management of business requirements.
Creates viable and consumable specifications, including acceptance criteria, in preparation for the sign-off, construction and testing of reporting solutions.
Process Improvement (20%)
Utilizes industry best practices for process analysis and improvement.
Coordinates with Data Architects, SQL administrators, BI administrators and others to understand and document technical requirements, capabilities, and limitations for process improvement.
Identifies opportunities for process streamlining and efficiencies.
Develops and maintains supporting documentation (i.e., business requirements documents, design documents, report inventory, training, etc.).
Leads interactions with customers to communicate status, resolve issues, and obtain sign-offs (i.e., design complete, testing complete, and/or ready for promotion).
Performs efficient and complete hand-offs to Developers.
Project Management and Intake Coordination (15%)
Develops and executes work planning related to report development tasks including effort and completion date estimates.
Performs to schedule and completes all tasks in the agreed upon timelines.
Works independently on assigned tasks with minimal assistance.
Reports work status and issues in a timely manner.
Manages competing stakeholder priorities to ensure the highest value is being delivered to customers.
Works with the team to determine and implement agreed upon testing principles and practices.
Participate in all aspects of improving the team, including education/training of other team members and contributing to process/communication improvement initiatives.
Work with manager to set professional goals for career development.
Act as back-up for other team members and functions, as needed.
Bachelor's degree in Business or Health Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, Public Health or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
2+ years’ experience must include:
Experience performing coordinator duties across a large and complex organization, preferably within the healthcare industry.
Experience with data analytics.
Experience performing progressively more complex and responsible Business Analysis and Project Management tasks.
Experience working through the complete report development lifecycle.
Experience creating new documents and processes to support complex system and business workflows.
Knowledge of testing methodologies, QA practices, strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
Skill at developing and streamlining process workflows.
Applied practical knowledge of healthcare data and terminology.
Demonstrated competency in standard administrative office applications: Microsoft Windows platform, Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word).
Previous experience in and knowledge of academic healthcare systems and/or operational environments.
Advanced degree (e.g., Master’s, PhD, etc.)
Experience with healthcare data analytics.
Knowledge of project management concepts and methodologies, including Waterfall and Agile.
Understanding of data warehousing concepts.
Experience with formal project management methods desirable.
Familiarity with or certification in Epic applications.
Knowledge of clinical healthcare concepts and workflows.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is an Information Technology deadline-driven work environment.
The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours. The work may be performed in either an office environment or by telecommuting with manager approval, during normal business hours; however, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and respond to emergencies. This individual is expected to be available for emergencies (business continuity/disaster recovery efforts) on a 24x7 basis as needed.
Must have the ability to meet in person as directed by manager.
Because of the physically separated sites for UW Medicine, this position requires the ability to travel to alternative work locations as needed.
Must coordinate projects without direct supervisory authority.
Must work within the constraints of multiple technical environments.
