The incumbent will provide clerical support in a busy Anatomic Pathology service unit. Will perform a number of clerical duties pertaining to the processing of Slide Send Out requests presented by various requestors ex. patients, law offices, clinical trials and research. Will handle incoming phone calls, facsimiles and mail pertaining to slide requests. Obtain patient release authorization forms/consents and applicable processing fee. Request re-cuts selected by the Pathologist on key slides from Histology lab. Prepares packaging for shipping; completes research slides using electronic bar-coding and tracking system. Also, will be responsible for transporting surgical specimens, requisitions slides, blocks, documents to/from offsite warehouse and throughout the medical center. Performs other duties necessary to the functioning unit.
40% - Processing of Slide Send out requests presented by various requestors e.g. patients, law offices, clinical trials and research documents data in Copath and applicable databases.
35% - Will handle incoming phone calls, facsimiles and mail pertaining to slide requests. Obtain patient release authorization forms/consents and applicable processing fee.
15% - Request re-cuts selected by the Pathologist on key slides form Histology lab. Prepares packaging for shipping; completes research slides/blocks retrieval, files, archives and refiles blocks and slides using electronic bar-coding and tracking system.
5% - Will be responsible for transporting surgical specimens requisitions, slides, blocks, and documents to/from offsite warehouse and throughout the medical center.
5% - Perform other duties necessary to the functions of the unit.
Two years of college or completion of secretarial school or equivalent business experience plus a minimum of one to three years related experience
Bachelor's degree desirable
Knowledge of Copath, Work, and Excel preferred.
Typing 30-35 wpm preferred
Ability to work independently and accurately in a fast paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Medical terminology is required.
Must be willing to work evenings
Must have excellent computer skills
Must be able to walk up to 3 miles a day.
