The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at the University of Washington Tacoma (UW Tacoma) is announcing an exciting opportunity for multiple tenure-track/tenured positions, including one Full/Associate Professor position, and up to three Assistant Professor positions to assume a pioneering role in designing, building, and implementing a newly approved Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. These are full-time positions with a nine-month service period, beginning in September 2021. SET is a vibrant and rapidly growing school that is guided by the campus core values of excellence, community, diversity, and innovation in the South Puget Sound region. We expect our faculty to have a strong commitment to working with underrepresented populations and enhancing the diversity of STEM education. UW Tacoma, one of three University of Washington (UW) campuses, is an urban undergraduate and graduate-level campus that is changing the face of its region economically, culturally, and architecturally. SET has several ABET-accredited programs, all of which can be found on https://www.tacoma.uw.edu/set/school-engineering-technology-home. SET has expanded its degree offerings with state approved funding beginning with Mechanical Engineering in Autumn 2020 and will do so with Civil Engineering in Autumn 2021. A new building housing these programs is scheduled to be completed by 2023.

These positions are contingent upon available funding. The entire search process will be conducted remotely/virtually due to COVID-19.
A Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related field is required for all the positions. Positive factors for consideration for this position include, but are not limited to, industry experience in a relevant field, and/or possession of a Professional Engineers (PE) license.
Candidates at the Professor or Associate Professor level should have an excellent track of achievements and leadership in research, teaching, and service at the level of a tenured professor. They should have an interest in education and research program developments and mentoring junior faculty members as documented in the cover letter and CV.
Candidates at the Assistant professor level should have potential for excellence in teaching as documented in the teaching statement, and demonstrated scholarly research. Priority areas include, but are not limited to, construction, structural, transportation, and environmental.
