The Academic Coordinator, as part of the project team, coordinates academic advising and services for up to 20 Access ETSU students. This includes using a person-centered approach to providing high impact student advising, developing individualized coursework adaptations, coordinating with other ETSU departments/programs regarding academics, accommodations and instruction, and guiding other staff members to make and implement coursework adaptations. The Academic Coordinator will supervise peer mentors and be the lead staff member responsible for developing and implementing academic support systems in collaboration with other staff and the principle investigator. This position includes elements of systems change as well as individualized supports and advocacy in order to develop a program that can be sustained beyond federal funding. Some travel may be required.
Provide overall day-to-day coordination of program activities focusing on academic advising, accommodations and adaptations to ensure timely completion.
Act as Access ETSU team lead on all activities related to academics.
Ensure initiatives related to academic supports and services are integrated with other elements of Access ETSU.
Collaborate across ETSU departments/programs regarding academic services and supports impacting Access ETSU.
Provide high impact academic advising to students in the Access ETSU program.
Meet with students weekly to discuss coursework, accommodations and adaptations.
Identify individualized strategies for access and progress in courses/program.
Support students to make informed decisions about academic progress.
Support students’ person-centered plans and career pathways.
Implement process of identifying, developing and implementing individualized adaptations for Access ETSU students within a universal design for learning framework.
Meet with instructor, student and others to identify adaptations for essential course assignments.
Make coursework/assignment adaptations and teach/support other staff to do so as well.
Analyze effectiveness of adaptations, make necessary adjustments, and document outcome.
Organize, coordinate and oversee tutoring opportunities each semester.
Coordinate with other ETSU departments/programs regarding tutoring opportunities.
Oversee specialized tutoring for Access ETSU program, as needed.
Collaborate with other ETSU departments/programs to develop new tutoring opportunities.
Supervise peer mentors to fulfill their job duties related to academic supports.
Gather, synthesize and apply information, policies, regulations and procedures related to Access ETSU students and program academic needs.
Secondary Functions (all other duties) Other duties as assigned.

Bachelors Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Education, Special Education, Social Work or related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of making high quality academic adaptations in inclusive settings.
Training in working with young adults with intellectual disabilities.
Experience working independently and with collaborative teams.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and administrative skills.
Excellent written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
