Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Phlebotomist I – Per Diem for the Clinical Laboratory – Phlebotomy/Accession Area at Rutgers, University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Phlebotomist I position is to collect blood specimens from patients and prepare all samples for processing by the laboratory.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture and finger stick) according to established procedure with minimal discomfort to patient. Processes/enters samples in the Laboratory Information System as required. Organizes work accurately and efficiently for processing. Helps co-workers when needed and communicates with laboratory departments when needed to ensure orderly workflow. Follows all organizational and department policies and procedures.
Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
Minimum Education and Experience:
At least one (1) year of experience as a phlebotomist, involving the drawing of intravenous and capillary blood, plus completion of an approved training program.
EKG experience or training in EKG.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Must be PC literate with proficiency in data entry and word processing.
Phlebotomist and/or Medical Assistant certification.
