Astronomy and Astrophysics: Junior Specialist (Open until filled. Apply by 12/17/2020)
The Department of Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a Junior Specialist. Under the direction of Professor Enrico Ramirez-Ruiz, the Junior Specialist is expected to build the most comprehensive energy inventory on supernova remnants using X-ray images and spectroscopy. This requires the Junior Specialist to conduct X-ray data analysis from Chandra and XMM, as well as develop the necessary analysis tools. The present-day supernova remnant energy inventory will give us a picture of the amount and organization of the material contents of the explosion, as well as the properties of the remnant. The Junior Specialist will then help to refine the theoretical framework and parameters/constraints utilized in simulations.
Applicants with expertise in analyzing energy on supernova remnants from X-ray images and spectroscopy are strongly encouraged to apply.
