Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a Dentist I for the department of Pediatric Dentistry-Special Care Treatment Center within the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM).
The Dentist I provides all phases of dental patient care for the Special Care Treatment Center, while supervising the dental assistants and hygienists.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists in the planning and coordinating of clinical policies and procedures of the dental division.
Organizes, directs and supervises auxiliary personnel during patient care.
Instructs personnel related to the division in the proper conduct and relationship towards patients and supervises the general welfare of his/her patients undergoing treatment in the dental service.
Accomplishes dentistry using pharmacological adjuncts depending on individual circumstances and dentist qualification. Consults with the medical staff in cases showing oral manifestations of medical conditions.
Arranges program and treatment for patients experiencing oral trauma, oral pain, oral infection and other pathology.
Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries and malformations of teeth, gingiva, mucosa, and related oral structures with reasonable patient acceptable sensitivity.
Cleans, restores, extracts and replaces teeth using rotary and hand instruments, dental appliances, medications and surgical instruments.
Minimum Education and Experience:
One (1) year of approved dental internship plus one (1) year of additional experience performing dental treatment under general anesthesia.
Three (3) years of experience are required for those not having completed a dental internship.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated clinical and administrative effectiveness beyond the Dentist II level, including training, experience and competency in the administration of pharmacological and/or gaseous analgesia.
Ability to successfully handle a broad segment of dental problems with minimal supervision.
Must have knowledge and ability to execute dental procedures in the areas of restorative dentistry, implant dentistry, maxillofacial prosthetics and oral surgical procedures.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
