The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Tufts University is requesting applications for the Kingsbury Fellowship, which has been created to advance the Tufts Offshore Power Research and Education (OSPRE) Program's research and teaching in bearing technology for offshore wind energy. The Kingsbury Fellow will receive a part-time appointment as a Research Assistant Professor for 2021-2022 along with financial resources to help cover research program expenses and graduate student support.
The Kingsbury Fellow is expected to work closely with OSPRE's structural health monitoring team to advance monitoring and data analytics methods for the performance of offshore wind turbine nacelles and the potential for the integration of fluid film bearing technology into next-generation wind turbines. The Kingsbury fellow will be expected to teach at least one class per year on bearing technology in relation to offshore wind, hydropower, and other forms of energy generation. The fellow is expected to lead grant proposals to advance Tufts' work on bearing technology, and to assemble a vision for a large-scale testing program for industrial fluid-film bearing technology in OWE turbines. Some background in Tribology will be helpful in understanding and addressing the potential issues that will arise in the exposure of fluid film bearings to the low speed, high load, and cyclic nature of OWE turbines.

The successful candidate will join an active department that offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs, and thus must demonstrate excellence in teaching as well as the potential to develop an internationally recognized research program. Teaching responsibilities will include one graduate course per year. A doctorate is required. All candidates must have experience in wind energy engineering, bearing behavior, and structural health monitoring.
