Responsibilities Under the direction of the Assistant Lab Director, the Quality Assurance Lab Manager has overall responsibility, authority and accountability for managing the technical lab sections Quality Assurance program. The position is responsible for translating the department's and UCDH's mission, objectives, policies and procedures into effective action and plays a key role in planning, leading and organizing activities related to quality patient care, including operations, financial and human resources management.
Possess Bachelor's of Science Degree
Possess current California State issued Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license
Minimum of 2 years supervisory and/or management experience of clinical laboratory functions in a hospital lab setting
Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines (CLSI), College of American Pathologists requirements (CAP), and Joint Commission (JC) clinical laboratory regulations
Leadership and/or supervisory skills to implement new systems and processes that improve the overall effectiveness of the unit
Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop cooperative working relationships
Knowledge of legislation and regulatory requirements pertaining to the clinical laboratory
Demonstrated ability with budgets, variances, and contracts necessary to oversee fiscal management of laboratory sections
Knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement principles
Knowledge of Prinicples of Community and Customer Service principles
Knowledge of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) to ensure patient confidentiality, privacy and security
Demonstrated ability with, word processing, data management and spreadsheet software
Demonstrated ability with laboratory and hospital information systems (LIS/EMR)
Knowledge of UCDH and Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine polices and procedures
Special Requirements Must be able to work variable shifts and rotating weekends; works flexible schedule as needed to interact with staff and supervisors in a 24 hour environment. This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
