The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking fellowship trained cardiac anesthesiologists to join our growing clinical practice. Cardiovascular Medicine and Surgery has a long and esteemed history at UAB. In this context, The Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology has an unwavering commitment to the education of anesthesiology residents and cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellows. The ACGME accredited fellowship currently enrolls three fellows per year. The clinical practice employs a care team model which is supported by a committed group of nurse anesthetists dedicated to the care of patients with cardiovascular disease. The cardiac anesthesiologists provide anesthesia and TEE services for a large and growing structural heart program, as well as electrophysiology and vascular procedures. Anesthesiology faculty perform and interpret the TEEs for all open cardiac surgical procedures and limited TEE coverage for the structural heart procedures. The Department is fully committed to basic and clinical research, and the current clinical growth will provide an awesome opportunity for research and investigation. Attending anesthesiologists are responsible for the medical direction of the full spectrum of cardiac and thoracic procedures.
