Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Dr. Min-Hao Kuo's lab at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Michigan State University, is seeking a highly motivated and skillful individual to join a technology development research project. This position will support research and extension efforts in the development of a new technology for the production of proteins with a specific post-translational modification in eukaryotic systems. The individual will work as a member of a team including research associates, research assistants, graduate, and undergraduate students. This is a multifaceted position that entails advanced skills and experience in molecular cloning, transfection and transformation, microscopy, biochemistry, immunochemical assays, and cell biology. The individual will conduct and coordinate research activities within the lab and with outside collaborators. Additional duties include the purchasing of supplies and assisting in the procurement of research equipment.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in biochemistry or related life science discipline; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in overseeing research projects and laboratory operations, operating and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment, performing specialized and difficult analytical and research techniques, and designing research experiments in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.
Master of Science degree in biochemistry, cell biology, or molecular biology
Three to five or more years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology
Extensive experience in molecular cloning
Extensive experience in recombinant protein induction and purification
Extensive experience in tissue cultures, transfection, phenotypic characterization, and protein chemistry
Ability to conduct and learn fluorescence and confocal microscopy
Demonstrated proficiency in working with a large group of colleagues with varying research skills
Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with Word, Power Point, and Excel computer programs
