Institutional Research Analyst - Office of Institutional Research 15803
The Office of Institutional Research seeks an Institutional Research Analyst to complete required reporting and provide analytical support to institutional officers regarding admissions, enrollment, registration, graduates, personnel, financial aid and other productivity measures as needed. This position reports to the Director of Institutional Research.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, resourceful, and able to effectively work both collaboratively and independently. Strong communication and organizational skills are required to complete tasks that require significant attention to detail and deliver effective end products.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
60% External/Official Reporting
Prepare data submissions for the federal government, West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, external surveys, and others across a spectrum of areas (e.g., student, employee, financial, etc.).
Utilize multiple technology applications including SAS, SQL, and data visualization tools to collect and analyze data and to prepare/present results.
Support colleges, academic and administrative units by deriving official institutional statistics as needed for accreditation reports, grant writing effort, and assessment activities in a timely manner.
Assist with the development of web-delivered reports, queries, infographics, etc.
Respond to external requests for data or analyses utilizing existing data sources when possible and querying databases as needed.
Review data submissions and other official reports for accuracy and consistency.
Work collaboratively with other university offices to complete official reports and submissions.
Understand and apply data management techniques and practices to ensure clear and accurate reporting and analysis,
20% University Decision Support
Assist in the preparation of quantitative and qualitative studies including design, data validation, and report creation.
Handle ad hoc data requests from other offices.
10% Administrative and Professional Development Activities
Provide support for departmental staff, departmental leadership, and university committees as needed.
Actively engage in professional development activities including awareness of trends and emerging aspects of the higher education industry, West Virginia University and the practices and tools of the discipline of institutional research.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in social science, business, information science, computer science, or other related field required.
Six (6) months of experience analyzing and/or presenting data to help inform decision-making (report generation, dashboard development, etc.)
Six (6) months of experience with databases, Excel, or other data manipulation tool sets.
Six (6) months of professional experience in higher education preferred.
Exceptional time management skills preferred, including the ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
Six (6) months experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau preferred.
Six (6) months experience programming/conducting analysis using SAS software and/or SQL preferred.
Ability to analyze and present data to help inform decision-making (report generation, dashboard development, etc.)
Skilled with databases, Excel, or other data manipulation tools.
Strong communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills.
