We have an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Privacy Analyst, Academic and Student Affairs Privacy Office.
The Senior Privacy Analyst is instrumental in providing privacy-related services, leadership, and subject matter expertise across the UW Privacy Office’s many services and resources. This includes working with the privacy team to develop, implement, and sustain the privacy processes. It also includes performing analysis and making decisions and recommendations to various stakeholders across the University on how to include privacy principles and privacy by design in their data processing activities, business processes, projects, and systems.
The Senior Privacy Analyst manages UW Privacy Office’s advising related services that are essential for the office to respond to the UW units’ needs and data subjects’ requests.
The primary focus of the Senior Privacy Analyst is on privacy, data ethics, and data protection associated with the all areas of the UW and for all types of personal data except protected health information.
This position requires an aptitude for performing analysis and providing pragmatic, risk balanced recommendations to a broad spectrum of complex issues where many criteria matter to varying degrees to different constituencies.
Knowledge of global privacy and data protection laws, regulations, principles and best practices are essential, as well as general knowledge of technology and information security.
Successful candidates must have ability to:
• Gather, interpret, and respond to business and technical requirements. • Explain privacy and data protections requirements in a user friendly, clear and concise manner that can be understood by anyone. • Manage effective internal and external relationships with stakeholders and their partners across functional and organization lines. • Convene and facilitate challenging and complex conversations • Develop tools, templates, resources, guidance, and privacy-related notices or consent forms. • Organize and address various requests simultaneously. • Manage projects and anchor privacy in UW culture through quality and timely service delivery. • Triage, analyze, and summarize risks, as needed—manage or escalate analysis and recommendations to the Associate Vice Provost for Privacy for decision-making. • Be flexible, comfortable with ambiguities, and adaptable to change in constantly evolving internal and external environments.

The mission of UW Privacy Office is to develop universal privacy policies and principles that uphold the UW’s values. This is in part accomplished by providing support services that help align the UW’s overall approach to protecting privacy and creating an institution-wide structure and strategy that unifies privacy at all UW locations.
The scope of the office applies to all areas of the University; all workforce members; and all types and mediums. The UW Privacy Office has broad purview of the privacy of all personal data at the UW except protected health information.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program and Project Management: (30%)
•Manage privacy program advising services and processes that are essential to meet the UW Privacy Office’s goals and work supporting UW units in their initiatives that directly or indirectly involve privacy. Customer service oriented and able to perform analysis and provide recommendations in a timely manner.
•Manage business operations and processes to ensure successful, meaningful, and sustainable outcomes for key initiatives.
•Function independently and collaboratively as part of a team within UW Privacy Office and as part of other UW organizations privacy related activities and initiatives.
•Assist in the operational day-to-day responsibilities of implementing a privacy program including, but not limited to inventorying and mapping data, completing assessments, maintaining privacy-related notices, consent forms, policies, guidelines, standards, and processes.
Business, Research, and Technical Solutions: (30%)
•Engage cross-functionally to understand privacy needs and challenges of partners and stakeholders. Conduct benchmarking, analyze best practices, and outline compliance requirements. Identify shared interest, develop cohesive and pragmatic solutions, drive continuous improvements, and promote UW values and principles for privacy.
•Document use cases and requirements for the development and/or implementation of software applications and business processes.
•Collaborate with colleagues across the UW to ensure privacy-related solutions are user friendly, adding value, and achieving the goals of the UW Privacy Office.
•Inventory and map data flows and business processes. Review assessments and make recommendations to UW colleagues on privacy and data protection practices within their own business, research, or technical solutions.
Analysis, Advising, and Report Development: (30%)
•Maintain working knowledge of current and evolving privacy and data protection laws, regulations, and best practices.
•Collaborate with other staff members to research, assess, and summarize specific topics. Write reports and papers, develop presentations, and produce other materials for publication or consumption by individuals at all levels of the organization.
•Conduct assessments of UW units’ data processing activities. This includes analyzing disparate information for privacy risks to the UW and impacts to individuals.
•Review content and initiatives (websites, education materials, contracts, consent forms, agreements, projects etc.) to assess and advise UW colleagues on ways to balance privacy risk while fulfilling the intent or goal of their own initiatives.
•Assist UW colleagues with data processing and other privacy related agreements.
•Address privacy complaints, assist with privacy investigations, respond to data subject requests, and facilitate the resolution of other privacy issues or concerns.
Other duties as assigned: (10%)
•Assisting the Associate Vice Provost with special projects and other duties as assigned to meet the business needs of the Privacy Office.
•Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, information management, business, public administration, law, or other fields closely related to privacy. •Professional certifications relevant to privacy and/or information security (e.g. CISSP, CIPP, CIPT, CIPM) •5 years’ professional experience of progressive responsibility in privacy, data protection, or a related field such as law, information security, compliance, or public policy. •Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. •Experience and interest in gaining a detailed understanding of the nature and purpose of data that are collected, received, where the data resides, and how data are used. •Experience managing complex initiatives that require development of an idea, documentation of uses cases, analysis of requirements, problem solving, implementation of a project, system or business process, and sustainment of the desired outcomes. •Experience with privacy incident response, analysis, and remediation. •Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively to build, lead, or participate in team or group discussions and projects within a large organization that often encourages, and sometimes requires, consensus building for key initiatives. •Proficient in organizing, planning, prioritizing and managing work related responsibilities in a way that establishes clear goals and objectives, manages competing priorities and schedules, and ensures proper communication and reporting. •Experience advising or consulting colleagues in a diverse environment. •Demonstrated experience and proficiency using standard business productivity software and tools. •Operates with integrity, professionalism, and high ethical standards. •Experience negotiating data protection agreements and implementing privacy by design. •Familiarity with privacy program management tools/solutions for analyzing, communicating, and making recommendations to multiple audiences/constituencies.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
•Experience working in a large academic institution or complex organization. •Appropriate certifications from relevant professional organizations and societies. •Experience with privacy programs in higher education or a large scale global organizations. •Experience leading teams or projects
