The program will allow participants to establish networking connections, as well as participate in career and professional development workshops. Those selected will gain insight about research opportunities at HMS and connect with current faculty of interest who may have a postdoctoral fellowship position available in an appropriate 0-18 month timeframe.
BENEFITS This virtual event will allow students to meet with, and present their work to, potential mentors in their fields of research who either have, or anticipate having, positions in their labs in the near future. Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in career and professional development workshops.
PARTICIPATING FACULTY AND DEPARTMENTS Participating mentors and positions can be found HERE. You can select up to three (3) faculty mentors. All faculty are members of the Pre-clinical Science Departments at Harvard Medical School. *All communication should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please DO NOT contact faculty directly.*
SELECTION Applications will be reviewed by Harvard Medical School faculty and administrators. Candidates are selected on the basis of the alignment of their research interests to the opportunities available at HMS and commitment to the HMS Mission and Community Values.
PROGRAM Two days during the week of December 14, 2020 (TBD), selected candidates will give a brief (3-5 minute) research summary. The individual candidates will then meet with faculty to discuss opportunities in their department/lab. In addition, candidates will participate in a Q&A panel with current and former HMS postdocs. Finally, we will offer a “Postdoc Essentials” workshop covering strategies for planning and executing, a successful postdoc tenure.
Late stage* students in MD, MD/PhD, or PhD (or equivalent) programs OR those who have recently completed their degrees (*approximately 0-18 months from expected graduation)
Applications from women and minority candidates historically underrepresented in the basic and social sciences are strongly encouraged
APPLICATION PROCESS Interested candidates must complete and submit a short application where they will upload 1) up to 3 Letters of Interest (tailored to each lab) briefly discussing their interest, their research interests, and future goals as a postdoc at Harvard Medical School and 2) a copy of their CV.
