Job Summary/Basic Function: PRIMARY DAILY RESPONSIBILITY: Oversee Tutoring Services and assist the Director with STAR Services academic support programming and initiatives.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Associate Director of STAR Services is a full-time professional staff position responsible for assisting with the continued development, planning, and implementation of Lamar University academic support programs, taking the lead for Tutoring Services. This position reports to the Director of STAR Services and collaborates extensively within STAR Services, as well as across campus with academic and student service departments, faculty, and staff. The Associate Director will supervise Tutoring Services professional and student staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Develop, implement, and manage tutoring and collaborative learning programs
Hire and supervise the Tutoring Specialist, the Customer Service Specialist, tutors, and collaborative learning leaders
Advance partnerships with multiple departments and individuals across campus
Market and promote Tutoring Services
Assess, evaluate, and grow programs
Utilize EAB Navigate system for appointments, communication, and reporting
Assist the Director with STAR Services program planning, implementation, development, and evaluation
Assist Director with outreach initiatives through presentations and workshops
Participate in professional development and tutoring, academic supp01t, and student success research
Minimum Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree from a regionally accredited college or university with at least three years of experience in academic support programming in higher education, knowledge of university educational system and student retention programming, and experience supervising staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of tutoring and collaborative learning best practices, academic support program development, and learning development theory in higher education Superior oral/written communication skills Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft applications High level organizational and interpersonal skills Demonstrated ability to participate in a highly collaborative work environment Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds Ability to represent Lamar University with high levels of professionalism and customer service
Preferred Qualifications: PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: At least two years of experience managing a tutoring program in higher education. Supplemental Instruction training certification.
