Position Description: Description: This is a 9-month, full-time non-tenure track faculty appointment comprised half of teaching and pedagogical responsibilities and half of administrative responsibilities supporting the CA Civic Action program and Service Learning at Pacific. It reports to the Vice Provost, Undergraduate Education (VPUE). The administrative responsibilities of the position will continue part-time during summer to sustain the grant program and relationships with community partners.
The appointment period is January 4, 2021 through May 15, 2022. The position may be renewable by the Office of the Provost. Faculty rank and title are contingent upon the successful candidate's experience and qualifications.
I. Instruction, Pedagogical & Faculty Development
The Faculty Lead, Service Learning Program delivers the equivalent of 14 units of instruction during the academic year. This includes teaching/supervising one cohort of undergraduates enrolled in the CA Civic Action program in fall 2021 (equivalent to 8 units because of the in-class and field work components of the experience). The Faculty Lead, Service Learning Program also delivers one service learning section of the first year seminar (PACS or Core) in spring 2021 and 2022 (equivalent to 4 units each). In addition, the Faculty Lead, Service Learning Program, participates in delivering 12.5 hours of training (equivalent to 1-unit course) to prepare the two fall 2021 cohorts of the CA Civic Action program for their work. The Faculty Lead also develops service learning modules, assignments, and syllabi to support adoption of service learning by Pacific undergraduate faculty. In addition, she/he collaborates with the Center for Teaching and Learning to develop and deliver faculty development workshops on service learning and provide other learning opportunities to support faculty engagement in service learning instruction. (Pedagogical & Faculty Development equivalent to 1-unit of instruction.)
The Faculty Lead, Service Learning Program, administers two related programs at Pacific: the CA Civic Action program funded by an AmeriCorps grant, and the Service Learning Program, which includes a proposed minor and plan for expanded service learning opportunities for undergraduates. The administrative responsibilities are divided into these two categories.
Administration of CA Civic Action Program 1. Grant Application Process: Maintain active grant program through California Volunteers/AmeriCorps to support CA Civic Action program; renew grant annually as available including late January/early February 2021 revision and resubmission (for fall 20201 program) and recruitment of new community partners for fall 2021. Navigate internal and external grant and contract approval process to ensure all steps completed. 2. Pipeline Development: Work with Faculty Fellow, CA Civic Action program, to develop a comprehensive member recruitment strategy in spring to recruit highly qualified, diverse AmeriCorps members to serve as CA Civic Action student fellows (and AmeriCorps members). Optimize pipeline into program through internal and external recruitment of students interested in service learning opportunities. Ensure 100% of service learning assignments and member positions are filled by the program start date. 3. Member Management: Serve as the primary organizational point of contact for cohort of student fellows in CA Civic Action program. Be proactive in providing support to student fellows to ensure they meet all program requirements and successfully complete their term of service. Collaborate with other faculty member(s) teaching and supervising CA Civic Action student fellows as well as site supervisors to provide supervision and support to members including performance management by coaching, counseling and implementing the disciplinary procedure (as necessary) to attain member retention objectives and program goals. 4. Site and Program Support: Develop and oversee productive working partnerships with all community partner sites, including site supervisors. Work closely with all partners to ensure open, effective communication. Provide required training and exceptional customer service to ensure successful implementation and compliance with the program model and AmeriCorps regulations at the service site. Recruit additional community organizations as partners for expansion of program pilot in fall 2021 with service assignment spots for ten additional students. Confirm continuation of existing community partners in year two (fall 2021) of program pilot. 5. Training Facilitation and Support for Members: Schedule, implement and manage all logistics for training of students serving as CA Civic Action student fellows and AmeriCorps members. Provide exceptional and responsive customer service at all times. Facilitate AmeriCorps orientation with members. Ensure 100% of students participating in service learning attend required training. 6. Program & Grant Administration: Ensure compliance with all federal AmeriCorps regulations. Maintain member files, ensuring proper documentation is on file for each member. Monitor time sheet completion of members and staff charging time to grant with support of Business Manager. Ensure Criminal History checks are completed in timely manner for all members and staff charging time to grant with support of Human Resources Manager. Monitor completion of programmatic requirements for all members and staff charging time to AmeriCorps grant. Comply with internal processes, policies and timelines. Serve as primary contact person with California Volunteers to ensure Pacific's CA Civic Action program aligns with all state and federal program expectations. 7. Budget Management: Manage all aspects of budget for CA Civic Action program, ensuring adherence to AmeriCorps/California Volunteer requirements; oversee budget for other aspects of service learning program at Pacific with support of Business Manager and Sponsored Programs Accounting and Reporting Manager. 8. Site Visits & Meeting Management: Conduct site visits, a minimum of two times per year, with program's community partner sites. In addition, attend relevant site and other stakeholder group meetings. Organize team meetings for CA Civic Action program at Pacific; attend CA Civic Action meetings/California Volunteer meetings external to Pacific as required and needed. Attend organization-wide conference calls and training sessions. 9. Data Collection, Assessment: Oversee data collection process for CA Civic Action program in collaboration with community partners to ensure compliance with program measurement requirements; retain up-to-date IRB training through Pacific; conduct program assessment and adjustments as data, feedback and best practices supports; maintain data repository for program; identify research opportunities in collaboration with faculty engaged in teaching in the CA Civic Action Program and VPUE. 10. Facilitate Stockton Service Corps Collaboration: Collaborate with Stockton Service Corps to path city service corps members to Pacific and optimize CA Civic Action program member experience through Stockton Service Corps program benefits.
Administration of Service Learning Program/Service Learning Minor
1. Community Partnerships: Develop and maintain community partnerships to facilitate service learning opportunities for faculty members interested in embedding service learning in their courses; leverage partnerships in support of course objectives for interested faculty members.
2. Logistics of Service Learning Assignments: Oversee logistics of service learning assignments for undergraduates enrolled in service learning courses in collaboration with instructor including matching students to service assignments, conducting training, addressing transportation, time reporting and evaluation needs to meet expectations of instructor as well as community partner.
3. Administer Service Learning Minor: Provide advising to all students enrolled in the minor, approve program change forms for students who add the minor, ensure catalog content is up-to-date, ensure all appropriate undergraduate service learning courses are included in the program, promote knowledge about the minor across campus and within materials for prospective students and families.
4. Service Learning Course Designation: Oversee service learning course approval process; convene approving body (service learning leadership/advisory group) as needed to review new service learning courses submitted by faculty; maintain clear requirements and process for faculty interested in submitting courses for designation as service learning course; collaborate with service learning leadership/advisory group to develop and maintain accessible and consistent standards and processes for service learning course designation; ensure catalog is up-to-date on service learning designated courses.
5. Promote Service Learning: As the designated advocate for service learning on campus, make presentations to internal and external audiences to promote Pacific's service learning program; ensure website and intranet is up-to-date regarding service learning program; ensure program is featured in internal and external university communications as appropriate; organize Service Learning Summit each year featuring service learning on Stockton campus.
6. Site Visits: Must have the ability to travel to Stockton-based sites with whom institution partners to deliver service learning (including CA Civic Action) program. Conduct site visits to all community partners in service learning program two times per year after initial partnership evaluation and development.
7. Measuring Community Impact, Assessment & Reporting: Develop and administer robust data collection process which includes all community partner sites and service learning courses; develop and administer robust learning assessment process for all service learning courses; uses collected data and assessment results to inform ongoing, continuous improvement of program as well as reporting to campus stakeholders.
8. Collaborate: Work collaboratively with all stakeholder groups on and off campus to optimize positive community and campus impact.
Basic Qualifications: Masters Degree (required) Experience teaching at the college level
Additional Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications Experience with and/or commitment to service learning/community-based learning. Experience working with non-profit community organizations, especially in Stockton, CA. Experience in advancing and/or commitment to social justice. Experience creating partnerships and working in a collaborative environment. Proven interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships, solve problems, mediate conflict and exercise sound judgment. Ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced evolving environment. Demonstrated professional communication skills characterized by active listening, respectful two-way communication, and timely and results-oriented communication. Public speaking experience preferred. Proven ability to adapt to change and innovate through a solution-oriented perspective. Experience working with diverse communities. Proven success navigating situations that require high emotional intelligence, with an emphasis on self-awareness. Ability to work independently and take initiative to get job done; ability to identify and act on own training/professional development needs to advance success of program. Demonstrated excellence of written communication skills. Proficiency with MS Office and Excel. Previous database experience preferred. Ability to utilize video conferencing effectively.
