Under the supervision of the Moores Cancer Center Patient Access Manager, the Front Desk Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for a variety of clerical and administrative duties in support of daily patient services within all clinical areas. The scope encompasses greeting patients, check-in and check-out procedures, appointment scheduling for various Cancer Center clinics including, but not limited to, the Multi-Specialty Clinic, Infusion Center Scheduling, BMT, Breast Clinic, Perlman Outpatient Clinic, Fast Track, and Laboratory Services.
Conducts registration, insurance and authorization verification, updating patient demographics, appointment arrival, co-pay collection, printing of appropriate check-in forms, printing of wrist bands, managing/monitoring petty cash (cash drawer), clinic and infusion work queue review/update, MUC scheduler inbox/my chart message clearance, contacting patients as needed to schedule appointments, documenting via telephone encounters/staff messages via Epic, working closely with physicians, nurses, staff and other UCSD departments and staff.
This position is also interchangeable as a Call Center Specialist which is responsible for typical duties including customer service, answering multi-line incoming calls, completing the online registration, insurance/authorization verification, scheduling appointments, expediting EPIC orders by routed referrals through the MUC work queue. Other duties as assigned.
Three (3) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated experience working in a large healthcare organization.
Prior scheduling experience.
Proven knowledge of third-party payors including federal, state and private health plans.
Experience with patient check-in/check-out and cash handling.
Demonstrated experience with insurance and authorizations.
Possess strong computer skills and be able to work between multiple systems during calls.
Must have excellent customer service skills.
EPIC Cadence knowledge.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs; Occasional Overtime/Holiday coverage.
Work locations including La Jolla, Hillcrest, and Kearny Mesa locations as needed.
