This position will require working at both Somerset and Laurel (London, KY) campuses.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating all disability services including: advising and assessing student needs; arranging and implementing accommodations; serving as a liaison between students, staff and faculty; coordinating interpreters and other accommodations as needed and working with outside agencies to help students.
Coordinate disability services, including interpreters, note takers, readers, as applicable. Plan and coordinate a program of services with both the technical and transfer programs at Somerset Community College to improve and expand opportunities for special populations.
Analyze needs of special populations of students and assist in the development a 504 Plan for all their classes.
Assist SCC faculty and staff to integrate vocational and academic goals and objectives related to needs of special populations.
Work with community groups and agencies to arrange related services to support students in special populations.
Document disabilities, interview students, determine reasonable accommodations, notify instructors and act as liaison to make sure students receive accommodations. Track progress and encourage academic excellence. Advise students and help them overcome fears and anxiety to promote self-esteem. Arrange proper auxiliary help and supervise them. Work with Vocational Rehab for repayment of interpreters' services and other needs of special populations.
Compile, maintain, review and safeguard records and reports to any related services for special populations of students.
Educate faculty and staff on how to best accommodate students with special needs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: Master's Degree in a related field (business, social services, counseling, education, psychology, etc.) and two years of related work experience or equivalent.
