The Research Development Officer, under direction, facilitates research team interactions and progress for undergraduate research. Identifies funding sources and solicitations, builds and organizes research teams to target such funding, and synthesizes research concepts to develop competitive proposals.
This position is funded by grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.
Acquires externally sponsored funds for campus-wide undergraduate research independently and in partnership with faculty.
Disseminates undergraduate funding opportunities to faculty research clusters and survey faculty undergraduate research clusters on a regular basis to match their interests with undergraduate funding opportunities.
Formulates faculty teams and support in preparing undergraduate research proposals. Effectively support faculty teams in the development of quality undergraduate research proposals for the assigned undergraduate research funding opportunities and matching research clusters.
Provides effective services to faculty to develop high quality proposals, including proof-reading, matching with RFP requirements, supporting documents, formatting, etc.
Leads and efficiently manages undergraduate research related programs and activities, including partnerships with PVAMU academic programs and the faculty research community for active promotion of UG research, recruiting, mentoring, managing and dissemination of UG students? research.
Offers exceptional undergraduate research development and capacity ? building activities, faculty training events, interdisciplinary discussions, themed research colloquiums, STEM and Non-STEM focused workshops.
Serves as a facilitator and advocate for undergraduate research endeavors, including facilitating undergraduate research council, offering non-credit courses and web-based trainings, coordinating and/or organizing student symposiums, conferences, and undergraduate research publications.
Serves as mentor for engaging interdisciplinary student organizations for collaborative community-based research experiences and projects, commercialize research outcomes with industries, and develop on-campus entrepreneurial/business ventures. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Education & Experience:
Three years of experience in experience in managing undergraduate research, including conducting workshops, symposiums, and conferences for undergraduate students, and assembling proposals to external funding agencies for undergraduate research grants.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Understanding of a broad spectrum of multi-disciplinary proposal elements and synthesis for research and education.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Five years of experience in leading multi-disciplinary faculty members for the preparation and submission of significant proposals to federal funding agencies.
