Loyola University Chicago (LUC), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral associate, with expertise in the area of stream ecology. The position is for one year. For more information about the department visit www.luc.edu/biology.
The postdoc will work with Dr. Timothy Hoellein on a funded research project that will quantify the role of anthropogenic litter (e.g., trash) in driving the community and ecosystem dynamics of urban streams. The project will include field and laboratory work that spans physical and biological dimensions of stream ecosystems, including geomorphology, water chemistry, and microbial biofilms. The post-doc will have the opportunity to complete analysis and writing on existing datasets to generate numerous publications. The post-doc also will be responsible for teaching one course during the academic year, on the topic of introductory biology or ecology in the Department of Biology.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biology, ecology, or a related field, experience with stream ecology field work, and a valid U.S. driver's license. Applicants with prior experience in geographic information systems, stream ecology, molecular microbial ecology, and bioinformatics analysis of high-throughput sequencing data, are especially encouraged to apply.
