Researches in the Department of Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Palliative Care are seeking a full-time, long-term Database Analysts / Programmers Senior to join a newly funded research program establishing the Center to Accelerate Population Research in Alzheimer’s (CAPRA).
We are seeking an experienced analyst with experience managing and analyzing data for health services research. Experience with large administrative file analysis, longitudinal data analysis, claims and programming are preferred as the core of this position will revolve around the management and construction of analytic data sets. The applicant will be responsible for creation of regional and/or provider specific datasets as well as producing code for data construction which will be shared with a larger audience.
The ideal applicant must be able to work independently and collaboratively. The applicant must understand both database and research complexities and apply independent problem-solving skills and scientific knowledge. These positions involve a wide range of tasks including data management, statistical programming, and analysis supporting health services research. Specifically, the positions involve providing independent and collaborative support including the following responsibilities:
Writing, testing, and implementing programs using Stata or SAS to clean, manage, merge, and analyze large, complex datasets.
Implementing methods to ensure data quality.
Developing and drafting specific plans for data management and analysis.
Summarizing, interpreting, and presenting results in written, tabular and visual formats.
Assisting in the writing and reviewing of statistical methods in manuscripts and grant proposals.
Execute appropriate statistical modeling and analyses in collaboration with project principal investigators, including descriptive and multivariable statistical analyses.
Employ appropriate data management and methodological techniques given the data structure and specific research and evaluation questions.
Attend regular meetings with project investigators to discuss progress and prepare presentations of study findings, including drafting methods and results sections of reports and papers.
Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, computer science, information, or related field.
Experience in constructing analytic data sets
High level data management
≥3 years of experience using Stata or SAS for data management and analysis.
Ability to draft and do data management and analysis plans based on study design and solve problems.
Working knowledge of concepts and methods in epidemiology and biostatistics.
Experience working with complex data structures and linkages between data sources.
Strong programming knowledge using high-level programming language
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Proven ability to write clear and concise technical documentation, summaries of various methodologies, and descriptions of statistical results.
Excellent communication, both oral and written in the English language.
Ability to prioritize, organize, and efficiently work on multiple projects at the same time.
Flexibility and ability to work independently and collaboratively with multiple researchers.
Ability to be consistently and extremely detail-oriented.
Must have a solid grounding in statistical theory and application; willingness to learn and apply new methods and approaches.
Knowledge of Health Service Research and experience on linking multiple large claims data like Medicare as prefer.
≥3 years of experience in data management, statistical analysis, and computer programming.
Direct experience in managing and supporting major research projects using large administrative datasets (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, private health insurance data, etc) and longitudinal data analysis.
Candidates will be asked to provide example code from a longitudinal analysis that involves merging and cleaning data, univariate analyses for a table on participant characteristics, modeling with multiple regression and/or survival, and creating figures such as a Kaplan Meier curve or spline
