This Resarch Associate I position works at the UCSD Rady School of Management on research studies directed by Rady Associate Professor Anya Samek. Professor Samek is a behavioral economist who has produced significant research that uses experiments to understand human behavior in the areas of philanthropy, health and early education. Among other topics, she studies how early childhood education interventions may reduce the academic achievement gap.
This data-oriented position supports research that seeks to understand the long-term impact of early education on academic trajectories of disadvantaged children in the US. The majority of the duties focuses on data cleaning and data analysis, with other time spent conducting literature reviews, interfacing with school administrators to request data, and miscellaneous administrative tasks. This research impacts policy formation and promotes a culture of evidence-based decision-making.
Primary responsibilities include data cleaning and analyzing data. The position will conduct literature reviews and summarize findings, uses Stata, enters data and information into spreadsheets, as well as general administrative tasks.
This is a part time 20 hours/week appointment with medical insurance, remote work, and flexible schedule.

Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Social Sciences, or related field; or an equivalent combination of knowledge and experience.
Demonstrated experience cleaning data, troubleshooting data problems using social science data. Experience analyzing data using Stata.
Formal education and experience with data collection, management and analysis principles. Experience or college coursework in research design, data collection and processing, data analysis.
Theoretical knowledge to discern and document a pattern of results, and the theoretical knowledge to analyze results and data. Experience compiling, synthesizing, and interpreting data/results.
Demonstrated experience conducting thorough literature searches; experience locating and evaluating reliable, scholarly source materials
Collaboration skills, tact and diplomacy and the ability to work with a diverse group of people. The ability to take direction and apply feedback from others.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively. Excellent attention to detail; time management skills. Prioritization skills. Experience meeting deadlines; experience working in a productive environment
Experience collecting or analyzing data on a social sciences/business research project.
