The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Institute of Human Virology (IHV) is currently recruiting for a Laboratory Research Assistant. This individual will perform research related to mechanisms of HIV disease. These studies include tissue culture, molecular biology methodologies, data analyses, and animal studies.

Performs studies in mice, including injection of drugs and collection of specimens.
Performs laboratory research activities including nucleic acid isolation and PCR.
Assist with literature research, editing and preparing manuscripts, scientific illustrations and computer graphics for publication.
May perform administrative duties such as: training and guiding students and/or other laboratory technicians; assisting in developing policies, procedures and/or methods for laboratory experimentation; and ordering supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or field of study related to the research of the laboratory.
Other: May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation.
May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications.
Skill in statistical interpretation and data analysis using statistical software as well as spreadsheet and database software applications.
Skill in animal care and handling.
Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.
Ability to network with, and provide information to key groups and individuals.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to use a consultative approach to resolve issues in area of responsibility.
